The National Security News Service teamed up with CBS’s 60 Minutes in a 6-month long groundbreaking investigation of the government’s no-fly list that will be featured this coming Sunday, October 8. In the 60 Minutes piece, Joe Trento is interviewed by Steve Kroft about the no-fly list, which includes the names of dead 9/11 hijackers, the president of Bolivia, and Lebanese parliamentary speaker Nabih Berri. The story describes how terrorists are repeatedly allowed to board U.S. airlines while innocent people are grounded because they have names similar to those on the no-fly list. Joe and Susan Trento provided the no-fly list to the National Security News Service, which they obtained as part of the research for their new book, Unsafe at Any Altitude (Steerforth Press). Despite the billions of dollars spent on airline and homeland security since 9-11, the Trentos say the no-fly list and other “preventative” measures taken by the government are so badly flawed that they have done little to improve public safety. Christopher Law and David Armstrong of the National Security News Service also contributed to the piece.
